We are pleased to announce that the Gemini Group has been certified with ISO 14001*. First published in 1996, ISO14001 is an internationally recognised standard for Environmental Management Systems and is aimed at introducing a continuous improvement process into a company’s drive to reduce its negative impact on the environment caused by energy usage and generation of waste.
To achieve certification we had to demonstrate to independent assessors that a comprehensive environmental management system was in place and that all staff had been given awareness training so that they could minimise the group’s environmental footprint.
Nigel Holmes, managing director, said: ‘The print industry often has a negative image mainly for the materials used in the printing process. Within the Gemini Group, we already have in place a number of procedures to help reduce the impact on the environment such as sourcing paper from sustainable forests and using vegetable-based inks.
‘A company's environmental performance can have a significant impact on its success so to gain the ISO14001 certificate is a great achievement.’
* Audits for Andus Print and Ghyllprint are scheduled for the New Year.
We are constantly improving our environmental practices and the New Year will see the group receive the dual certification of FSC & PEFC. This will mean that all paper used across the group will be sourced from managed forests and that chain of custody certification will ensure that material used in the print process can be traced from forest to the end user. The two accreditations are the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which both run global forest certification systems. www.fsc.org & www.pefc.co.uk.
How we stay 'Green':
- All new machines run alcohol free.
- Paper used is from a sustainable source.
- We use vegetable based inks.
- Used printing plates are recycled.
- Used ink tins are recycled.
- Used solvents are disposed of by a recognised, certified company.
- Waste paper is sent away for recycling.
- We are a member of the ride2work scheme encouraging employees to cycle to work.
If any of what we have mentioned is of importance to you, please call for further details to discuss with our environmental co-ordinator at Gemini Press or alternatively any of our sales team across the group.
